ON THE ROAD AGAIN!

Bayswater to Werribee (via train and road) = 25km
Cummulative total = 25km

As the title suggest ... we are back on the road again for around 5 weeks and should be back around March 15 (LOL did your jaw just drop then Sharon?!!)
So we started out early this morning around 7.45am and below is a photo of Neil and Kouta with the bikes. We have made a few changes - first the dog trailer now has a shade cloth over it and sort of protects Kouta (except for when the sun is in front of us), I have ditched the rear bags and gone for bigger front bags which contains all the food and is a little heavy at the moment! Neil has also gone for bigger bags up front but there is not much in them! The trailer bag has less things in it and is not so bulky, and we both have new shimano cycling sandals - we thought we would try them out this time. And we both have new collapsable cups which are fantastic and have had 2 cups of tea out of them this afternoon!
So we cycled to Blackburn train station via the bike path and a series of back roads. It was around 12.5km to Blackburn with one small steep climb, but since I have cycle shoes that clip in and prevent foot slippage I thought I would try a Lance Armstrong move with a damn heavy load while going up the hill ... no I didn't increase the speed from 6km per hour to 35km per hour! ... no I got up out of the saddle to stand and pedal up the hill ... those sandals are just fantastic!!!
Got too Blackburn nice and early and there was a train (9.23am train) waiting there for us, that is the reason why we went there as it is very difficult to get 2 loaded bikes on a train within the 1 minute that trains stop at a station so Blackburn station has a few trains that start there so we had plenty of time to load the bikes on.
Below is a photo of Kouta and I on the train from Blackburn to Flinders Station, he is a little hesitant on the train what with all the stranges sounds and grumblings coming from the engine!

As you can see we unhitch the trailers from the bike and put them at the very back of the train where commuter traffic is minimal. We got to Flinders just after 10.00 and the next train to Werribee was (according to the Metro screens) was 10.40am so we had ample time. But a Werribee train arrived and said that it was departing at 10.20am so we debated whether we had enough time to get on that train as it was now 10.19am but at 10.23 it was still there so we quickly panicked and got on. Why panic you ask ... well we get one complete bike on at a time ... it would be stressfull if only one of us managed to load on and the train takes off!!! But we both got on okay.
We got to Werribee just before lunch and picked up tonights' dinner (tuna sandwiches!) at Safeway near the station and started to head for South Werribee which is where the campground is. The road to South Werribee was busy and full of produce trucks picking up either lettuce, cabbage or cauliflower. As there was alot of vege farms around, but the traffic was quite good to us as per usual ... I think we are bit of a novelty to some drivers!
The campground is quiet and full of winnebagos that have pop outs! We are the only tenters but out site is fab and has shade and grass. It is powered but unfortunately for most of the day the power point is in the sun so I am in the laundry writing this post on the computer. Also the campground doesn't have a camp kitchen only a bbq area with a table and sink and no power point! oh well it is still a nice park and is opposite the beach.
We went for a swim this afternoon but Kouta would not come in with us but just chased the waves along the shoreline - he loves doing that and that keeps him entertained! I wouldn't say the beach is like something up in the Gold Coast as it is only Port Philip bay but it is nice and refreshing for a summers' day!
Tomorrow we head for Geelong and back to the expensive caravan park but at least we have our own ensuite!
Til then ciao!
